The necessity of developing local data knowledge in energy consumption

    30 October 2017

Through their actions in overseeing renewable energies consumption, communities play a key role in the green transition.

Within such context, local data knowledge in energy consumption is essential. It allows for precise diagnoses of consumption, helps in defining energy usage plans and is fundamental to territorial climate-air-energy plans.

Though currently, the gap between the availability and the quality of open data and the their use by communities remains important. In response to this, data labs focusing on local energy consumption are to open soon within Greentech incubators, as announced on October 10th by Brune Poirson, Secreteray of State at the French Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition. As a place of interactions and the sharing of knowledge, these labs are meant to gather local energy data. Note that there is also an ongoing discussion on the gathering of biodiversity data for which the AFB (French Agency for Biodiversity) will be dedicating a forum next December.
