    Data Visualisation Award at WE2017

    6 November 2017

    On September 25, Ministry for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition launched a data-visualisation contest #DatavizODD, aiming to promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted in 2015 by the UN General Assembly, and the action taken by France to meet the commitments of this new 2030 Agenda.

    The #DatavizODD contest revolves around the following three challenges:

    • the implementation of the SDGs, by illustrating the state of progress in France from today until 2030;
    • the universality of the SDGs, by demonstrating France’s progress in achieving the SDGs compared to other countries;
    • the cross-cutting nature of the SDGs, by highlighting the linkage between SDGs or targets and by analysing the formulations used in the headings of the targets and indicators.

    The profile of participants for this contest is diverse: graphic designers, designers, data scientists, statisticians, developers or data-visualisation amateurs. All of them aim to find visual solutions in order to make the SDGs monitoring indicators more understandable (244 indicators, statistical or qualitative, for 17 SDGs divided into 169 targets).

    The visual solutions arising from this contest must allow to support the ministry in its role of pedagogy, communication and help in understanding the Sustainable Development Goals.

    The award ceremony, held on December 13th at WE, will reward three outstanding projects of the contest. The public will be able to understand the choices of the jury during all the stages of the selection as well as the specifications of each of the three winning projects.
